Tyler Turner is a bilateral below knee amputee who lost his right leg in 2017 in a skydiving accident. After a year of hospital visits, drugs, and rehab, Tyler chose to have his left foot amputated as well. His journey of acceptance and pain management hasn’t been easy. A film documenting this struggle is set to release in summer/fall of 2021, 60 Seconds. Tyler now pushes past the dark side of recovery and continues to push the limit in sport: Skydiving, wingsuiting, surfing and snowboarding.
Tyler resides in Campbell River, BC on his sailboat, working as a skydive instructor during the summers and a member of Canada Snowboard’s Para team in the winters. After winning gold at the 2021 ParaSnowboard World Cup in Colere, Italy, Tyler is on track to compete at the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing, China. Tyler’s journey to the 2022 Paralympics has been documented and a film will be released in summer 2021, Finding his Sea Legs.
Greatness in sport is not new for Tyler, although becoming a para athlete has only opened the door for him. Tyler grew up competing snowboarding in his late teens, training at the Canadian Sport Institute. His involvement with C.O.P. grew into a career as a park builder, snowcat operator, and tail guide.
With the help of NPOs such as Adaptive Training Foundation and High Fives Foundation, Tyler has been given the opportunity to set new records and breaking barriers in the para sport world. Tyler became the first bilateral wingsuit pilot, which was documented and a film is set to release later in 2021.
Just when you think you know what Tyler is capable of, he catches you off guard. Some call it inspirational, while Tyler simply calls it just living life to the fullest.
