In September 2024 we hosted our first Girls with Grit Sport Summit- a two-day event aimed at empowering girls through sport participation. By age 14, girls drop out of sport at twice the rate of boys the same age (Women’s Sport Foundation). At the Wood Buffalo Sport Connection, we want to work towards changing this by providing young females with the opportunity to feel like rock stars, and build them up so they feel confident trying new sports and working towards being active for life. Girls with Grit Mini Summits
The most consistent feedback we received after hosting the 2024 Girls with Grit Sport Summit was that our young females want MORE! So in addition to our 2 day summit we have partnered with Girls Inc. to offer one day 'mini summits' throughout the year.
The first mini-summit will be held April 4 from 9:00am - 2:00pm for ages 8-15* and thanks to Girls Inc. these mini summits will be offered at NO cost! Like our larger summit, these mini summits will provide a more intimate opportunity (max 40 participants) for young females to increase their confidence and competence and leave them inspired to move more and be proud of what they can do!
Schedule will be as follows:
9:00am-9:30am: Welcome and Team Activity
9:30am-10:30am- Girls Inc Body Confidence talk
10:30-10:45am- Snack Break
10:45am-11:30am- Disc Golf
11:30-12:00pm - Lunch
12:00-12:45pm- Volleyball
12:45-1:45pm- Team Building Activity
1:45-2:00pm - Wrap up/Dismissal
*For skill based activities females will be separated into groups based on age as outlined by the Long Term Athlete Development Model (8-11 and 12-15)
Participants are required to bring their own lunch, snacks and water for the day.
