Interview with November's Community Champion of the Month:

Kate Vargo

You have accomplished so much already! Congratulations! When did you first start dancing?

I started dancing at 3. At 6 is when I started competing.

It is so amazing that you are part of a mentor program that is training you to be a future instructor! What is your favourite thing about being a mentor?

Mentoring isn’t always my favorite part cause kids can be crazy but I do love it when I walk into the class and see all the big smiles and cute faces! It is fun knowing they look up to me, so I have to be good in everything I do so they don’t copy when I’m bad.

How was your experience training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet? What was your favourite moment in that two-week training?

The RWB training was an amazing experience & hope to go back again this summer. It was so great seeing how much I improved in the time I was there. Living there in the dorms for 2 weeks was scary at first until I made friends and that was my favourite part & all the great field trips.

You clearly showcase hard work and dedication, how do you stay motivated to keep training and competing?

Honestly, for me the motivation is really just the fun I have when I’m dancing. Also seeing really good dancers on Instagram or tik-tok inspire me to keep going to be the best me.

What is your next goal for your dancing career?

I just want to do the best I can at competitions and be proud of what I put on the stage!
