"Julianna has been skiing since she was 3 years old at Vista Ridge. She lives and breathes skiing, according to her uncle, Jason, who nominated her for this month’s award. "Congrats to Kate Vargo on being this month’s Wood Buffalo Sports Connection Community Champion of the Month! Kate dances, trains and performs with YMM Dance Company in all styles of Dance. She is also part of the PEAK dance program at École McTavish, and is part of a mentor program training her to be a future instructor! Kate trained with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in a two-week intensive summer training course. She was also the recipient of a full scholarship and placed in the top 5 in her solos, duets, trios and recently won a Buffy Award for Rising Star! Way to go, Kate! ” - Mix 103.7

of the Month, Chris Reitz!
"Congrats to Chris Reitz on being this month’s Wood Buffalo Sports Connection Community Champion of the Month! Chris is a dedicated father, president of the Ptarmigan Nordic Ski Club and head coach for the club’s racing development team! He provides opportunities for athletes to grow and spearheaded the expansion of the youth program to have a race team. Usually on the road for competitions, Chris managed to bring an Alberta Cup Race to Fort McMurray for the first time so the racers would have a chance to play a “home game”. He also sits on the board for the Arctic Winter Games as co-chair of cross-country skiing. Nominees said they are extremely lucky to have someone as passionate as Chris in the YMM because he spends countless hours into making the community better and always looking for ways to serve!
